According to his coach, Matt Manasse, playing the sport was the routine that he needed to improve both his physical and mental health. He was also known to play tennis since childhood, often for 10 hours per day and became a top-ranked junior player in Canada with the possibility of a tennis career. But his options diminished when he moved from Ottawa, at age 15, to live with his father in Los Angeles, where competition was much tougher.

Matthew Langford Perry (born August 19, 1969, and died October 28, 2023) grew up in Massachusetts, United States, to John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Marie Morrison, who later got separated when he was just one year old. Perry was mostly raised by his mother in Ottawa, Ontario, but he also lived briefly in Toronto and Montreal.

The Canadian-American actor started studying acting when he was 15 and got his first role as a child actor in the movie 240-Robert in 1979. He went on to star in successful movies and sitcoms such as Friends, Ally McBeal, 17 Again, The West Wing and a lot of other movies that earned him several prestigious awards and nominations.

He had an alcohol addiction, which started when he was just 14, and later started abusing opioid pills as his career progressed. These two factors caused significant issues for his health, which worried him for a very long time.

In 2022, the actor released a memoir titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing that became a best-seller on Amazon and the New York Times charts.

Sadly, he passed away in 2023 at the age of 54.
