Portia de Rossi, born Amanda Lee Rogers on January 31, 1973, in Australia, is pretty well-known for her TV roles in "Ally McBeal," "Arrested Development," and "Scandal." She grew up in a broken family as her father died when she was just nine years old. At the University of Melbourne she studied law.

Her career took off with the movie "Sirens" in 1994, and she really made a mark as Nelle Porter on "Ally McBeal," even snagging a Screen Actors Guild Award. She also had a blast playing Lindsay Bluth Fünke on "Arrested Development" and Elizabeth North on "Scandal."

She was married to Met Metcalfe between the years 1996 and 1999. However Portia knew that she is a lesbian and it was only a part of an attempt to get a green card - however she did not go through with the plan. In 2005, she opened up publicly about her sexual orientation. Portia and Ellen became engaged when DeGeneres proposed in 2008 and they got married in Beverly Hills. She decided to switch things up and changed her name legally to Portia Lee James DeGeneres in 2010 after marrying Ellen DeGeneres.
